12/7/15 – OBSDA Donates to Collegiate Stock Dog Club
The Outback Stock Dog Association is proud to donate $1,000 to the Collegiate division of the OBSDA, which has its home at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, located in Curtis, Nebraska. The club, with the help of their advisor Judy Cole, just received its charter from the Board of Regents last month and has a very enthusiastic membership. Club members have received tremendous support, assistance, and advice from OBSDA President Kelly Popp and OBSDA Treasurer Eddie Merrit in their quest to learn better livestock handling techniques through the use of their stock dogs.
So far this year, they have hosted two NCA and OBSDA sanctioned trials at their college arena and have plans to host another in the spring of 2016. The club plans to use the OBSDA donation to help pay their startup expenses and to purchase livestock to practice working their dogs with. The club members also have hopes of involving other colleges in stock dog contests throughout the region and creating a intercollegiate stock dog competition. Members of the club all have their own dogs to use and compete in competitions, and several members have already participated in the OBSDA Novice Class at the NCTA Spring and Fall trials of 2015.
The Outback Stock Dog Association is proud to lend assistance to these up and coming dog handlers, many of whom are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to compete again.
